Forn Germans Adrover

Around the 60’s, the grandparents of Margalida and Joan Adrover, current owners of the establishment, decided to buy for their son, Sebastià Adrover Roig, the building that was located next to the bar they ran in Calonge, the same one where the bakery and the grocery store are now located. When he was fourteen years old, his father went to Campos to learn the baker’s trade and when he returned he opened the bakery in 1961 and gave it the family’s surname. At the beginning, he made Majorcan bread and ensaimadas, which he delivered by motorcycle outside the village.

Around 1968, his wife, Margalida Adrover Grimalt, joined the business and they decided to set up a grocer’s shop, as they call it, since there was enough space in the establishment (bakery). Even today, customers can still buy basic necessities in the store and take home the bread that has just been baked in the oven, which is still wood-fired.

With the tourist boom, the 80’s were very good for the business, since they delivered their products to all the hotels in the area, as well as to the village and all the surrounding areas.

From a very young age, the couple’s two sons learned the trade and now run the establishment, whose name they have changed to Forn Germans Adrover, as their parents have retired.

Currently, they say that it is difficult to maintain the business and struggle to stay open and supply the town with bread and other products, such as some cakes and ensaimadas, since it is the only bakery in Calonge.
