AFuster joiers taller de joieria

In AFuster Joiers  – jewellery workshop – , the sales room shares space with the artisan workshop: a declaration of intent, because this jewellery shop was opened with the hope of giving prominence to artisan jewellery and that both the jeweller’s trade and the gem-setter’s trade would be present in the shop and be visible to customers. It was inaugurated on 2 August 1999, when the brothers Margalida and Toni Fuster Gallego joined the family business.

This jewellery shop is the result of the expansion and heir to the Joieria Universal AFuster, which Marga and Toni’s parents, Dori Gallego and Toni Fuster, have run since they opened it in 1971 and which today, under the management of the two brothers, has become one of the shops that has been open for the longest time in the tourist resort of Cala Rajada.

In the context of the tourist boom in Mallorca in the 1960s, many people like Toni Fuster Forteza, founder of Joieria Universal, together with his mother Margalida Forteza Picó, and his siblings Joaquim, Jaume, Francisca, Biel, Pep and Miquel, opted to move to the coast and open a business related to their trade. The family had a jewellery shop in Manacor and Toni had trained as a jeweller with his father, Gabriel Fuster. Thanks to his knowledge of the jeweller’s trade and his commercial vision, they saw the opportunity to open a jewellery shop. And so it was that a very young Toni Fuster Forteza in 1964, with the support of his family, left his hometown to move to Cala Rajada.

And from that distant 1964 until today, these jewellers have been dedicated to the retail trade of jewellery and watches at Joieria Universal AFuster, and at AFuster joiers taller de joieria, their two points of sale in Cala Rajada, as well as AFuster joiers, a third jewellery shop opened in 2013 and located at Carrer de Ciutat, 42 in Artà.

From the proposal of AFuster joiers taller de joieria, we must highlight ‘Llataenjoies’, a collection of jewellery with timeless aesthetics and quality inspired by the craftsmanship of the palm and handmade in gold, silver and natural palm, which has received several distinctions. The llata is the popular name given in Capdepera to the basic plaiting on which the palm work is based. It is a craft with a long tradition on the island of Mallorca and is based on the transformation of the garballó leaf (Chamaerops humilis) to make all kinds of basketry. This collection of handcrafted pieces is always present on the counters and has become a collection that links them to the village and represents them as jewellers.

On the other hand, practising jewellery as artisans allows them to create and offer personalised jewellery, to make small limited series, as well as to carry out jewellery repairs, which adds value to the store.

They believe that small businesses are a catalyst for village life. Therefore, despite being in the tourist centre of Cala Rajada, they have always been open all year round, in line with their way of thinking.
