Argos

In 1970 Fernando and Magdalena, parents of Argos Cavaller, the current owner, decided to start a family business and transformed the house where they lived into a small workshop. With the skills acquired in Menorca, their homeland, the father dedicated himself to repairing footwear and leather goods, and the mother to sewing, mending all kinds of garments.

After Fernando’s death, Magdalena took over the business, continuing her husband’s legacy. Today she is still known in the village as ‘la sabatera’ (the shoemaker). Years later, Argos joined the company where he learned the shoemaking trade from his mother, working with her for years. In 1999 they took a step forward and introduced the sale of sandals, which they received directly from Menorca. In 2001 Yolanda Izquierdo, his wife, began to work with them and started sewing. When her mother retired, the couple decided to expand the offer and specialised in abarcas (type of rustic footwear made mainly of rawhide, covering only the soles of the feet, and secured with ropes or straps over the instep and ankles) and also offered palm baskets made in Capdepera.

As time went by, the shop underwent successive changes of premises, as the company grew and needed more space, until in 2008 they acquired their own premises where they still are today.

It should be noted that Yolanda has shown exceptional skill in the art of the llata, obtaining in 2021 the Artesana Seal awarded by the Consell de Mallorca. She has also begun to share her knowledge through courses and workshops. Her passion for teaching this art has opened new doors and the business is expanding in a way they had never imagined. In addition, they have registered their own brand: ‘Yolitas’, which has become synonymous with quality and creativity.

The shoe shop is a point of reference for customers in the area, specialising in traditional Menorcan abarcas and other accessories, with quality products that reflect the wide-ranging culture of our land.
