Bodegas Ferré
The Ferrer family founded this wine and liquor shop in 1888. The daughter continued with the business until she sold it in 1948 to Fermín Pons Rotger. The bodega is currently run by his son, Fernando Pons Gomila, who represents the fourth generation outside the founder’s family circle and who has continued the business activity, the same since its beginnings.
The bodega is made up of different rooms, which have not undergone any renovation or modification work, and which therefore conserve the essence of an establishment with a long history. Inside the bodega there are still a good number of old bocoys on the floor. When you enter the premises, you notice a pleasant aroma that envelops you, the result of all the liqueurs displayed on the shelves.
Bodega Ferré is a reference point in the port of Maó and is linked to port activity, which reached its peak during the 20th century, before the companies and industries moved to the city’s industrial estate. The current owner finds it difficult for anyone to take over the business, mainly because of the great effort and dedication it requires.
During the tourist season, and at the request of the clientele, you can find products such as sobrasada, cheese with designation of origin and other typical Menorcan products.
