Ca sa Pollaca
Located in Ses Voltes, the history of Ca sa Pollaca begins in 1897 when Sebastián Moll and Catalina Casasnovas, with the support of their daughter-in-law Maria Salord, opened the establishment. In 1909 Maria, together with her husband, took over the business definitively.
In 1945 the ownership of the shop passed to the niece of the founders, Margarita Femenias and later to her daughter, Antonia Mercadal Femenias. Today the shop is in the hands of Rafael and Jaume Salord Mercadal, a fact that proves that the shop has been in the hands of the same family for more than a hundred years.
As a curiosity, we should mention the origin of the establishment’s name. Sebastián Moll was a sailor and had a small boat known as a “pollaca”, which is why the people of Ciutadella knew him as Sebastià de sa Pollaca. In 1992 the name Ca sa Pollaca was made official, as it was previously called Magatzems Ses Voltes.
It is worth mentioning that the premises preserve an interior staircase that is protected by the General Urban Development Plan of Ciutadella, which gives it a patrimonial value.
Currently, in Ca sa Pollaca we can find different types of children’s, men’s and women’s footwear. Above all, they are specialised in abarcas menorquinas, esparto espadrilles, hiking footwear, baskets, etc.
