Coll 1925
Maria Allès Moll and Toni Coll Allès, great-grandparents of the current managers, founded the company in 1925, so it is a business with more than ninety years of history. Their first location was in the Plaça del Hospital and they were mainly dedicated to the sale of fabrics and underwear. At that time, items such as jumpers, trousers and dresses were not yet sold ready-made, but were made by each individual. It is worth mentioning that both Maria and Toni came from the countryside, from Ses Arenes, which is why the business is still known today as Ca n’Arenes.
Around 1933, the company moved to Carrer de Curniola, until 1942, when it moved to its current address at Carrer de Josep Maria Quadrado, 39.
The business, based on a close and quality service, offering and making made-to-measure clothes, was boosted in the 1950s when a knitwear factory-workshop was set up at the back of the shop. These were made to order and with machines, a very innovative aspect at that time in Ciutadella. In the sixties, the manufacture of women’s dresses was added, including pieces such as wedding and communion dresses.
In 1972, the business was expanded with the purchase of the building at Plaça de la Catedral 2, where the tailor’s shop La Printemps once stood, and which is connected to the shop at Ses Voltes, 39. In this way, a men’s fashion section was integrated and the business model changed towards the sale of clothes from outside, to the detriment of custom-made clothes. It is worth mentioning that this shop is in charge of supplying the clothing for the caixers and cavallers of the Sant Joan festivities in Ciutadella.
Nowadays, the company is managed by the fourth generation, Manu and Migue, offering men’s fashion, formal, avant-garde and casual clothing.
