Ca’n Llabrés

When Maties Llabrés Florit opened Can Llabrés it became the third souvenir shop in Mallorca. Known throughout the Levante area, Can Llabrés has been and continues to be one of the most emblematic shops in Porto Cristo.

The founder of the establishment came from a family from Sencelles and worked as a shop assistant in Manacor. In 1945, he decided to open what eventually became the family business it still is today. In the beginning, they were only open on Wednesdays, because that was the only day that a busload of tourists arrived to visit the Coves des Drac. Once Maties retired, the business was passed on to his son-in-law, Pedro Bonet Sitges, Pedro Fay, as his daughter died. Nowadays, it is his son Antoni, together with his wife, Cati, who run the shop.

Today, they still have the same cash desk as when the shop opened, and they also preserve the structure of the building, which is characteristic of the period. Like other shops on the coast, they were visited by famous customers who used to spend their summer holidays in the area.

Since Maties founded the shop, the whole family has lived in the Port, as has Pedro, who belongs to one of the five founding families of Porto Cristo, who were fishermen.
