Carnicería Miquel Sastre

Carolina Sastre represents the fourth generation of the family that currently runs this butcher’s shop dedicated to the sale of meat and artisan sausages, especially black pork sobrasada, camaiot and botifarrón. Her son Raúl, the fifth generation, is already involved in the family business at the market.

Its history began in 1942 when Rafel Sastre Alemany and his wife were butchers in Palma’s Plaza Mayor. Rafel was from Andratx, and he oversaw the cemetery and the slaughter of the only ox that was killed each year in that village, to distribute the meat among all its inhabitants.

In 1951, their son Rafel Sastre Riutord and Catalina Bonnín Serra bought a stall in the Mercado del Olivar, when it was just starting up, and they continue there today. In the 1970s, the couple’s son, Miquel Sastre Bonnín, aged 21, rented the space from his mother. He also worked in the slaughterhouse, where he trained in trade. His daughter Carolina is now in charge of the business.

The interior of the stall displays a wide variety of fresh meats. They offer Mallorcan black suckling pig, as well as suckling lamb and veal from Mallorca. They also stand out for their production of different stuffed meats such as rabbit, suckling pig and lamb, among others. Sobrasada, botifarra and other sausages hang from the ceiling, reflecting the specialisation of the business.
