Carnisseria Cas Caparrot

Although the exact date of its establishment is not known, there is evidence to suggest that this butchers pre-dates the Plaça d’en Coll market, which has been in operation since 1826.

Malen and Sebastià Gibert’s godmother opened the business in its current location on Carrer de la Vidrieria in 1907, and it was soon nicknamed Cas Caparrot for the large pig’s head that was displayed on the counter at the entrance.

The business sells all kinds of fresh meat, cold cuts and other foodstuffs, which they prepare at the back of the shop. Everything they sell is made in-house, and they play an important role in supporting local produce by continuing to serve as a traditional neighbourhood butchers supplying the local residents.

As he prepares the meatballs for the traditional Christmas broth, Sebastià proudly recalls the family’s more than one hundred years of experience in the butchery industry.
