Cas Seller
We do not know exactly when the Cas Seller business began, but it is believed that it was in the second half of the 19th century, when Martí Bagur Bagur set up the business in Pere Martorell street, in Ciutadella. His son Martí continued working as a saddler in the family home.
In the beginning, the business mainly sold products related to the countryside, especially with the creation of harnesses and saddlery for horses and other pack animals.
As the 20th century progressed, saddlery became less important with the introduction of carriages and Cas Seller diversified its business. They began to place orders for shoe factories and started to manufacture their own leather belts, pigskin suitcases and buckets for carrying shoe samples.
In 1950 they bought the house in Carrer de Pere Martorell, where they moved the workshop of the business. In 1960, part of the shop was opened with the sale of handmade leather goods and the making of repairs, such as putting eyelets on shoes or lining buckles with the same leather. All the work mentioned above continued until Martí’s retirement at the end of the 1960s.
In 1980 Cas Seller changed the location of the shop and workshop back to Avinguda del Conqueridor, where he continues to offer his products today. From the year 2000 to the present day, Sebastià Bagur Moll, the fourth generation of the family, has been running the business, where they continue to sell handmade leather goods, such as leather belts, custom-made pieces, suitcase repairs, etc.
It is worth mentioning that they still make the guindolas, which is the two-cornered hat worn by the caixers during the festivities in Menorca.
