Casa Calicó

In 1941, Guillem Tomàs founded Casa Calicó, an establishment specialising in the sale of all types of items related to fishing and diving. In 1970, his son, Guillem, took over the business.

Today, Casa Calicó continues to welcome customers into its shops under the watchful eye of the founder’s grandson Guillem Tomàs and his wife, Assumpta Santandreu, who have been in charge of the business since 2010. This date roughly coincides with the closure of their branch in the centre of Palma, after more than seventy years as a benchmark supplier of fishing tackle. They currently have shops in Portitxol (1994) and Eivissa (2014).

The business, which was initially geared towards supplying professional fishermen, has drifted towards sport fishing, recreational fishing, and spear fishing because, as the current owners say, “it’s important to keep reinventing yourself and adapt to the demands of the clientèle”.

The interior of the premises features the white wooden beams that are typical of traditional houses in Portitxol. In addition to the sales area, the shop has a backroom that serves as a store and a warehouse.
