Cicles Caymaris
The beginning of the history of Cicles Caymaris is linked to the life of Miquel Caymaris Pons, born in 1896. He was the first person in Ciutadella who around 1910 had a bicycle, and later, also a motorbike.
The first establishment of Cicles Caymaris, or “Pista”, was founded by Miquel around 1920, dedicated to the buying, selling and repairing of bicycles, which was located at the Contramurada, next to the OAR. During these times, many people learned to “anar en velo” and soon the cycling hobby was born and the first races were organised.
Around 1940 Miquel, after being imprisoned in Barcelona because of the Civil War, returned to Ciutadella and reopened a new workshop in Sant Eloi street, together with his son Miquel Caymaris Moll. The latter, when he took over the business, relocated it to Mallorca Street, where it is today.
During the 1940s and 1950s, the cycling hobby gained great momentum and the first clubs began to emerge, such as the OAR, Es Born and Es Casino Nou. Miquel son would experience those times first hand as a mechanic, rider and manager, setting up his own Ciclos Caymaris team, and later founding the first Penya Ciclista Ciutadella. He even built a voltadora with a partner.
Around 1980 the cycling hobby was reborn and the current Penya Ciclista Ciutadella was re-founded. It was at that time when Francesc Caymaris Benejam, the third generation of the family, joined his father in the trade until his father retired.
Today, Cicles Caymaris is dedicated to the sale and repair of bicycles, as well as spare parts and accessories. The business has not lost its love, passion and enthusiasm for bicycles and cycling in all its aspects.
