Colmado Maneu

In 1962, Francisco Juan and Eulàlia Blanch took over the Can Maganet café-restaurant, a hallmark of the neighbourhood at the time.

Until the 1990s, it was owned by two couples, who turned it into a grocery store before it finally ended up back in the family’s hands under the management of the two daughters, Margarita and Francisca, who continued their parents’ business.

The establishment is well known for its assortment of local products, including cold meats, flours, legumes by the kilo, jams, wines, sweets and other typical foods from the island. It transports us to another time when the locals would find everything they needed for day-to-day life and catch up on the neighbourhood gossip at the traditional grocery stores that used to be common in the city, some of which were known as ultramarinos.

The interior two-room layout of the premises is almost the same as it was in the sixties, with the current Colmado Maneu now occupying the space that used to be the dining room of the old restaurant.

Over the years, the business has become a benchmark establishment in the neighbourhood and retains a loyal customer base, highlighting the social value of traditional commerce.
