Es Sabater

Es Sabater began in Artà in 1908 when Benet Capó Nicolau, the great-grandfather of Jaume Capó Borrás, the current owner, set up a leather and shoe workshop in the same house where he lived, as was the custom in those days. In 1956, his father and uncle, Tòfol and Miquel Capó Ferrer, opened a factory in Alaró, accompanied by his grandfather and great-grandfather. Under the name Ferrer’s, the factory remained open until the 1990s.

In 1992 Tòfol Capó, a master craftsman, opened the workshop shop in Carrer de Sant Joaquim in Palma. In 1997 he moved to its current location, in Carrer de Ticià, where they have an adjacent room to support the workshop in order to be able to work. Jaume Capó, with a degree in orthopaedic techniques, has continued with the business after his father’s retirement.

Es Sabater repairs footwear, leather goods and specific footwear for mountain activities (climbing, mountaineering, trail running, etc.). They stand out for their handmade orthopaedic footwear and they are the only establishment in the Balearic Islands dedicated to the production of this type of made-to-measure footwear, suitable for clients with specific needs. They use the same technique as always and employ the same tools as in the past.

The interior of the shop has shelves where different shoes and shoe repair products are displayed. There is also an exhibition of old machines and traditional tools used for making and repairing shoes, as well as photographs of the workshop and the factory.
