Especias Crespí

In 1945 the brothers Joan and Jordi Crespí opened a shop in Carrer Vallori, which was originally dedicated only to the sale of products related to the production of sobrassada, mainly the Mallorcan red paprika called Tap de Cortí, which gives sobrassada its characteristic red colour. Although the company was founded that year, there is evidence that in 1940 they were already engaged in the retail sale of spices.

In 1952, they moved the establishment to Carrer de El Sindicat and, two decades later, in 1972, they opened a factory in the Son Castelló industrial estate, where they produce the spices. They currently sell more than 400 different spices.

In 2005, the granddaughter of the founders, Coloma Crespí, took over the company with her husband, Juan Velasco.

Today, as well as selling at the Son Castelló factory, they can also be found in the municipal markets of L’Olivar and Santa Catalina. The shop on Carrer de El Sindicat closed in the summer of 2020, after 68 years of business.

Coloma Crespí, the current third-generation owner, describes how the business has taken a big turn in recent years. Whereas before they imported the products, now they control the entire production, from the seedlings to the distribution, including the spice mixture and packaging, guaranteeing an ecological and quality product. The company’s interest is to promote a product that is native to Mallorca while maintaining a traditional process. Thanks to all this, they have gained recognition both locally and internationally.
