Ferreteria Can Nofre

When Nofre Gayà Garí and Apolònia Ballester Escalas got married, they decided to set up a hardware, drugstore and gun shop, which they opened in 1952.

The needs of the customers in those days were very different from those of today. Campos was a farming village and they specialised in farming tools. At Epiphany time and for the Fira and Firó, held in October, they also set up shelves full of toys for children.

For more than 30 years, Can Nofre has been part of FERBA (Ferreteria Balear), a group of ironmongers who joined together in 1979 in order to reduce the cost of transporting goods, and to which 36 ironmongers belonged. Today the hardware store is part of QFPLUS, a national cooperative.

Francisca, daughter of Nofre and Apolònia, took over the management of the family business when her father retired, together with two employees and the invaluable help of her father.

In 2004 Miquel Llompart, Francisca’s son, joined the business at the age of 16 and today, together with an employee and his mother, serves the customers. It is a shop where you can find almost anything and if they don’t have it, they are happy to order it. In a hardware store you can order anything and they try to help as much as possible to solve the customers’ needs.
