Ferreteria Consell
Shops like Francisca Amengual’s give meaning and soul to the community. A shop where you can find anything from a needle to darn a button to a bricklayer’s tools or a container to store sobrassadas, rope, copper and brass handicrafts, undoubtedly plays an essential role in the village.
The first known owner of the establishment was l’amo Joan Isern de Can Ramallet, more than 75 years ago. It is said that he was so kind-hearted and always ready to lend a hand; the door to his house was always open, like most houses in Mallorca at the beginning of the 20th century.
He was single and had no children, and passed the business on to Maria Oliver, Francisca’s mother. The current owner took over the hardware store in the 1990s and has continued, if not improved, the good relations with the neighbours.
It’s a shop where you can find literally everything, it’s like having one of those virtual shops on the corner of your house, and if they don’t have it there they can get it or tell you how to get it. You can even get some happiness if you enter showing goodwill.
