Ferreteria La Central
In 1908, Pau Gelabert y Calafell opened a business dedicated to the sale of products and equipment for boats, to supply fishermen and sailors, under the name of Can Don Pau. At the age of 12, the father of the current owners, Biel Serra, started working as a boy in the hardware store in 1934. After some time, he bought the premises and changed the name to its current one. In 2004, Gabriel and Antoni Serra, the second generation of the family, took over the business. Eva Serra, Gabriel’s daughter, has already joined as the third generation in charge of the business.
From the beginning, the shop has specialised in products for boats, but little by little it has been integrating other products related to hardware, household and personal care products, gardening, plumbing, machinery, etc., and it has become a point of reference in the city due to the great quantity and variety of articles sold.
This establishment, more than a hundred years old, is located in one of the modernist buildings that were built in Santa Catalina at the beginning of the 20th century, designed by a disciple of Antoni Gaudí that was declared an asset of cultural interest in 2012.
