Forn de Ca l’amo en Pep

The Forn de ca l’amo en Pep began its activity towards the end of the 19th century thanks to Amador Salom Calafat, a native of Vilafranca. He bought the building where there used to be some warehouses and in which, as well as setting up the bakery, he created different dwellings around the bakery. It is worth mentioning as a curiosity that, in this old warehouse, where practically all kinds of products could be bought, he was also in charge of providing the horses with tack when they were on their way to the villages of the island.

Joan Company Bauzá, a native of Sant Joan, began working as Amador’s assistant at the age of just eight, eventually becoming the owner of the bakery. Between the 1950s and 1960s, from a very young age, his son Arnau Company would go to help out at the bakery when he was not at school. Once he finished his studies, he began working with his father and later took over the business, being the only one of the three brothers to follow in the family footsteps.

Today, Joan Company, Arnau’s son, has taken over the management of the business after the death of his father in 2024. The Marin sisters, who have been working in the bakery for years, will continue to run the business. Nori is in charge of customer service and Carmen works in the bakery, where she learnt the trade from Arnau, with whom she worked, making the same recipes she inherited from her father, especially ensaimadas.

It is worth mentioning his activity as an artisan bakery and pastry shop, as he still produces sweets and cakes in the traditional way using a stone oven, since the previous wood-fired oven they used stopped working due to a flood.

The Forn de ca l’amo en Pep is the usual place of purchase for the neighbours of the Es Secar de la Real area and carries out a basic task of local commerce in this environment, highlighting the assortment of traditional products and the dedication that Arnau puts into everything he makes.
