Forn de Ca n’Amer

In the main square of S’Arenal we find the Horno Ca n’Amer, opened thanks to the work of three generations of the family. Sebastià Amer, the current owner, has been running the business since 2002. He says that his grandfather, Esteban, opened the oven in the centre of Llucmajor and a few years later, around 1966, his father, Joan Amer, followed the family tradition and moved the oven to S’Arenal. Sebastià’s son will probably continue with the business, representing the fourth generation of the family dedicated to the sector. It is possible that the oven was already open by 1963, as there are photographs showing Sebastià’s father making chocolate and sugar cakes by hand.

The Ca n’Amer bakery is well known among the people of the village. One of their star products is llonguet, which they use to make much-appreciated sandwiches. Among other distinctions, they won 1st Prize in the 2018 edition of the Fira del Llonguet de El Pil-larí, with their octopus and onion sandwich.

They are members of the “Pa d’aquí, forn i tradició” brand, which distinguishes establishments with a bakery that make the different types of bread from the Balearic Islands. In addition to bread, they also make traditional pastries, such as cocas, panades and ensaimadas. They currently work three shifts and the first one starts at 10 p.m. so that the next day the people of the village have their freshly baked bread or llonguet bread.
