Forn Terrassa
The Forn Terrassa opened its doors in 1936, when Apol-lònia Vallbona and Pere Terrassa got married, rented premises from the master Joan del Forn for forty pesetas a month, and bought them a few years later. This bakery is located near the church of S’Alqueria Blanca, where it can still be found today. They still have two wood-fired ovens, more than fifty and one hundred years old, which they use to bake the traditional bread.
Pere came from a baker’s family, since his father was also a baker, which corroborates that this bakery is one of the centenary businesses of S’Alqueria Blanca. In the 1960s, they passed on the bakery to their son, Damià Terrassa, and his wife, Antònia Rigo, who adapted it to the new era of tourism and created two production lines. The traditional one, where the wood oven is still used for all the typical Majorcan products, such as ensaimadas, panades, cocarrois, llonguets… and, later, the industrial production line, focused more on the hotel and catering business with modern machinery, since they serve their products to different hotels and restaurants in the area.
Currently, the brothers Apol·lònia and Pere Terrassa, the third generation of the family, are in charge of the bakery and continue to preserve the traditional and ancient recipes of their grandparents, since they say that they are the essence of the business. They have received several awards, at the ensaimada show in 2014 and at the llonguet show in 2017.
