Fornet de la Soca

Tomeu Arbona and María José Orero’s project began in 2010, when they opened their first establishment on Carrer de Sant Jaume. Later, in 2014, they moved their location to the oven in Sa Llotgeta, since they needed a larger space. Finally, in 2018, with the growth of the business and driven by the motivation to recover the artisan activity of a bakery that had been carried out since 1916, one of the best known and oldest in the city, they moved to the old Forn des Teatre.

Arbona revives traditional Mallorcan pastry recipes, as well as making typical local products. It has preserved the surroundings to be enjoyed by residents and visitors, while at the same time innovating in communication with the clientele, the dissemination of the products and services offered, taking advantage of current resources.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this bakery, located in a 19th century building, is that it conserves its modernist wooden façade, protected for its artistic value, since it is a real testimony to the influence of modernism on the Balearic Islands. The old name of the bakery appears on the sign, along with the name of the first baker who founded the establishment, Jaume Alemany. The central winged dragon stands out.

The premises have been recently refurbished, since it still has some old architectural elements inside, such as an irrigation ditch. The basement contains the old wood-fired oven, which is still intact. The bakery is located at the back of the shop, which has two shop windows and imposing shelves.

In 2020, a second shop was opened in the Neo-Mudéjar premises of Can Corbella, another wonderful example of modernism in Mallorca.
