Foto Studi Hernando
The beginning of Ca n’Hernando begins when Agustín Hernando Martínez de Salas married Àngela Camps. Àngela’s parents already had a photography studio-workshop in Carrer de la Purísima, first under the name of Camps and later Camps e Hijos. The exact date of the opening of this establishment is not known, but it is believed to have been during the last quarter of the 19th century.
Rafel, one of the six children of the Hernando Camps couple, continued with the family business together with his wife Juanita Llorens, at the end of the 1930s. Later they moved the business to Ses Voltes, as Foto Studi Hernando, where it continues today. The house, as well as being their home, also housed a photo lab, a studio and a photographic shop. At this stage new services were offered, such as the installation of a set in the street to photograph volunteers, or to capture images from outside the studio, both of life in the countryside and of weddings, current news, etc.
Rafel and Juanita had three children, of whom only Germán took over the photography studio. Currently, their daughters and fifth generation of the family, Mari and Tita, run the business together with their respective husbands, Llorenç Gornès and Silve Soler.
The last major refurbishment of Foto Studi Hernando was carried out in 1998 to introduce new technologies such as photo scanning and framing. In addition, they have recently integrated the sale of musical instruments on the first floor of the building.
