Hortícola Balear
In 1967, José Font Raluy arrived in Menorca with the Barcelona company La Hortícola Barcelonesa, S.A., to carry out various gardening tasks in a series of gardens and hotel complexes on the island. The following year, once settled, José founded his own company, which became the first florist shop in Menorca, making it a reference point. In 1969, he named the business La Hortícola Balear. Initially, the florist’s shop was located on Carrer de la Costa de la Plaça, but it later moved to Carrer de la Infanta.
La Hortícola Balear stands out above all for being the first Menorcan establishment dedicated to the design, production and sale of gardening products, such as bouquets of flowers, plants and creative and personalised decorations.
The family business is currently run by the founder’s son, José Maria Font, and his wife, who have expanded the activity to include the wholesale business and the maintenance of green areas and their customers’ gardens.
