La Granja
A tour of the Granja de Esporles gives you an insight into the everyday life of Mallorca in past centuries through the traditional trades that were carried out on a farm from the 10th to the 17th century.
The land currently occupied by the Granja de Esporles was already of great interest to the Romans and later to the Arabs, who dominated the island between the 10th and 13th centuries. With the Christian conquest, the estate began its journey as a feudal organisation, passing through several owners until it was acquired by the Fortuny family, who were responsible for the reformation of the house in the 18th century. It is currently in the hands of the Seguí family, who have been running it for 40 years.
It is a manor house surrounded by lush vegetation, gardens and natural fountains, but with a combination of stately and rustic styles, as it was used both as a residence for the lords and as a farm (possessió).
During the tour of the Granja you can see examples of the Majorcan rural life and its cultural legacy through the traditional trades. These go from the manufacture of fabrics to the production of oil and perfumes, as well as the tasks of the blacksmith, carpenter and shoemaker, among others.
La Granja de Esporles has a shop where you can find a selection of products from the island of Mallorca, where there is a free tasting of traditional products, such as sobrassada, jams, fritters, fig bread, wines, etc.
