La Industrial

La Industrial is one of the last remaining traditional toy shops in Palma. Although the establishment has been open since 1898, it was not until 1929 that Ferran Aguiló left the silversmith’s trade and bought the shop in Calle del Pas d’en Quint, which at that time was also dedicated to the sale of personal items and gifts. Today, the shop is run by Concepció and Neus Aguiló, the third generation of the family.

In the 1950s, with the arrival of tourists, they began to sell souvenirs and, in the 1960s, Pau Aguiló, father of the current owners, set up a little stall on Passeig de Sagrera, waiting for the arrival of the first boatloads of visitors.

Throughout its history, the shop windows of La Industrial have displayed walking sticks, flasks, fans and funeral wreaths, among other items; but, over time, the business has specialised in traditional toys, board games and classic dolls, such as Mariquita Pérez dolls.

Its shop windows are part of the fabric of the neighbourhood where it is located, having become a special attraction in the street, especially at Christmas, as well as forming part of a group of traditional shops that are concentrated in the same place and share a common aesthetic. La Industrial has an open façade with glass counters running from one side to the other, where the neon-lettered sign features prominently. Inside, the toy shop retains the characteristic furnishings of the shops of the 1960s, with wooden and glass counters, wooden shelves and display cabinets covering the walls of the establishment.
