Merceria Nadal

Miquel Nadal opened this haberdashery in 1924, when he left the sea and his job as a ship’s skipper. From that time until a few years ago, the haberdashery belonged to the same family, since when the founder retired, his daughter Catalina Nadal ran it for some time.

In 2013, Lietina Binimelis, the current owner, took over the establishment. A long-time customer, when she realised that the haberdashery was closing, she decided to take over the business and continue offering the same service to regular customers in the neighbourhood, which is why the activity and essence of the shop have not changed. For this reason, the business has been very well received by the Santa Catalina neighbourhood, which, according to the owner, has been very supportive.

When she took over the business, Lietina Binimelis made some small alterations to the establishment, but always maintained the same personality and layout. When entering the interior of the shop, it is though time has stood still. The furniture, walls, tiles and storage are almost untouched. The shop also occupies a building that has all the characteristic features that characterise this first suburb of the city.
