Mimbre Joguines
In 1945 Maria Saura and José Vadell opened the Casa del Mimbre on the road to Es Castell. Nine years later, they moved to other premises in the same street, where they have continued with the commercial activity up to the present day.
In the establishment, the wicker handcrafted objects stand out, which were on sale for many years, along with other articles. The couple continued in the business until the time came for them to retire. Their daughter, Martina Vadell, took over the shop, but was unable to run it because at that time she had to look after her parents and four children at the same time.
The Casa del Mimbre did not close but found a replacement from outside the family thanks to Manola Pons Tudurí, who took over the shop in February 1988.
At that time, all kinds of articles could be found in the shop, which changed according to the time of the year: Christmas and Epiphany gifts, fancy dress, beach articles, school material, flowers for All Saints, toys, etc. In this way, the shop adapted to customer demand.
Manola Pons always ran the shop as a family business. Her daughter, Teresa Pons, began to lend a hand in campaigns and on busy shopping days. In 1996, Teresa started working in the business and, as time went by, mother and daughter became partners. Today, Teresa Pons is the owner of the establishment.
The current owner has modernised the shop. Her passion for toys has led the small shop to specialise in toys and educational games for all ages. It offers a personalised service, but has also joined the world of new technologies, with a presence in social networks and e-commerce. On its website, mimbrejoguines.com, you can find the leading brands in this sector.
As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that the façade still has the same sign that was installed in 1954, when the business opened. The entrance door is also the original, made of wood.
