Moda Puigserver
Maria Magdalena Puigserver, the fourth generation of shopkeepers in the family, is the current owner of Modas Puigserver, known in the village as Can Ronquet. It is currently dedicated to the sale of men’s and women’s clothing, bedding and household linen.
The story begins around 1908, when Maria Magdalena’s great-grandparents from Can Valé set up a business opposite the Can Pere bakery, in which their daughter Margalida, Magdalena’s grandmother, helped out. She married Miquel Puigserver from Can Ronquet, hence the name by which the shop is known in the village.
At the time of the Civil War, they bought the building where they are today, in Carrer Antoni Maura. It was an old blacksmith’s shop that had to be closed and put up for sale, a moment that the great-grandparents took advantage of to buy the business from their daughter and her husband so that they could earn a living.
In 1930, Miquel and Margalida moved to the new premises to start this adventure. In those early days, the shop sold all kinds of products: clothes, shoes, cutlery, crockery, fabrics, even food. The parents of the current owner, Joan Puigserver and Maria Verger, continued the family business and are the ones who taught her this trade.
The building dates to 1840 and the establishment preserves elements of the old smithy. In the cellar there is a lathe, where they now sell bed linen.
A curious note is that the corral used to be part of the old “Sa Torre”, a place where dances and boxing matches were held. There is still evidence of the ticket office on the doors of the coach house, as well as the dance floor with its different coloured bricks.
