Pescados Marilén
The Amengual family has been selling fresh and frozen fish for four generations. Since they started out in the 1940s, they have kept the business going over the years by always offering a quality product.
The origins of Pescados Marilén lie in the fishing activity of Jaume Amengual and his wife Antonia Taberner, who was in charge of selling the fish. Years later, Antonia’s brother, Sebastià Taberner, and his wife Margarita Serapio, continued the business. It was Margarita who consolidated the family business with the acquisition of the stall at the Olivar Market. This is a wide space, where the fish is on display, integrated with the rest of the stalls dedicated to the sale of fresh fish.
The couple’s daughter, Maria Eleonor Amengual Serapio, took over the business from a very young age. She would take the fish caught by her father Sebastià to the fish market and then sell it at the market. Thanks to her, a period of transition and change began, with changes to the sales systems and modernisation of the business.
Pescados Marilén is currently run by her son José Martín Amengual, who is following in his mother’s footsteps. As his family had done before, they maintain the stall at the Mercado del Olivar in addition to selling fish online.
