Plovins
Joan Plovins founded this haberdashery in 1940. In the 1960s, they bought the premises in Carrer de Sant Miquel, which had previously been rented, from where they supplied other businesses with wholesale products. It was also around this time that their two sons, Francisco and Miquel, took over the business.
Nowadays, Antònia and Joan Plovins, the third generation of the family, have been running the business for many years. Their godfathers began as merchants, selling around the villages of the island in a horse-drawn carriage. Eventually, they settled in the market of L’Olivar.
Today, the Plovins brothers still run one of the few remaining haberdasheries in Palma, offering knitwear, underwear, lingerie and, more recently, some tourist-oriented souvenirs. As for the future, they hope that someone from the family will take over and keep the shop in business.
