Sa Cooperativa de Porreres

Sa Cooperativa de Porreres was founded in 1957 and brings together most of the farmers in the community. It is dedicated to the harvesting and sale of fruit and vegetables grown by its members, as well as administrative and technical advice. In the cooperative you can find a wide range of products from Porreres and Mallorca, as well as wickerwork and baskets, since the cooperative is committed to the importance of consuming local and seasonal products.

In the early days, the cooperative was mainly focused on the marketing of dried apricots, a product of great importance between the 1960s and 1980s, since at that time this fruit was only consumed in dried form and was exported all over the world. It was Joan Lliteres, president of the cooperative, who promoted the sale of dried apricots throughout Europe and America in 1959.

The cooperative is currently managed by Esperança Mora, who knows the organisation very well, having a family background with both her grandfather and her father being members.

Sa Cooperativa was one of the driving forces behind the apricot fair in Porreres in 2013, which has been held every year since.
