Tapicerías Hernández

Vicente Hernández, Valencian by birth but Mallorcan by choice, began learning the upholstery craftsman’s trade in different workshops in Palma from a young age. In 1936, he set up his first upholstery workshop in Sóller. Later, in 1939, he had the opportunity to acquire a workshop in Carrer de Sant Francesc, moved to Palma and turned the workshop into a veritable melting pot of apprenticeship for craftsmen who, in time, set up their own workshops.

In 1966, when his two sons Vicente and Miguel joined the family business, they saw the possibility of expanding the company by setting up a shop in the same street. From then on, the second generation took over management of the business. In the 1990s, the third generation joined the company with Miguel Ángel, Miguel’s son, and Carlos, Vicente’s son, although the latter later decided to leave the company.

Tapicerías Hernández, located in a new premises on Calle de Bonaire since 2012, is currently run by Miguel Ángel, who has dedicated himself to adapting the family business to digitalisation without losing its essence. Joan Miquel, the fourth generation, is already taking his first steps in the business, helping and learning in his spare time.

They specialise in making furniture and curtains. They also have an upholstery, tailoring and carpentry workshop that allows them to offer the customer bespoke furniture.
