Xocolat

Xocolat, a small shop in Carrer de l’Estanc, at the end of Passeig del Born, first opened in 1980. It sold records and held exhibitions of photography and graphic work by the most vibrant artists of the time. At first, it specialised in jazz and salsa, styles that with the arrival of the “movida” gave way to other genres that can still be found in the shop. In 1987, it moved to its current location with the goal of being a specialised shop, offering a wide variety of records on vinyl and CD.

The business survived the severe crisis suffered by the record industry years after it first opened by reinventing itself, creating a space dedicated to the presentation of records, books and concerts, making it a point of reference for culture in Mallorca.

At the same time, Miquel Àngel Sancho, owner of Xocolat, created the Moratón record label in 1982, producing works by various local and national artists. Today, Xocolat stands out particularly for its vinyl collection, which earned them the award for best record shop in Spain in 2010.

The business is currently run by the second generation of the family, Anita and Miquel Àngel Sancho Bisquerra, together with their partner Toni Vives and also David Tomé in the store. They attest with a mix of nostalgia and a vision of the future that they run one of the few record shops left in the city, where you can find a wide range of CDs, vinyls and music-themed books, as well as hi-fi equipment.
