It has now been four years since we launched Emblemàtics Balears and we can already say that we are more than three hundred businesses on the four islands.
And these three hundred are not just a figure. For us, it means three hundred families behind a business that have written the history of the people through commerce. And the aim of this project, which was born in 2019, is to give visibility to the establishments that differentiate the commercial fabric of one municipality from another, those that remind us that we are in Manacor and not in Santa Eulària des Riu, or that we visit Alaior and not Formentera.
We wanted to recognise the shops that are in the collective memory of the people and that have contributed to the economy, culture and living history of their municipality. We want the new generations to learn to appreciate the value of these different shops, the importance of buying so that they last over time and we have Emblemàtics for many years to come.
For us, as well as an adventure, this project has meant discovering thousands of personal stories that make up a business: generational change, recovered trades, family stories that we have learned about thanks to the involvement and generosity of the owners and workers, who have opened the doors of their business to us. Many thanks to all of them!
It should be noted that if there are important people for the development of the project, it is the technicians and councillors of the town councils, who really know the commercial fabric of their municipality and who have acted as a link between the shops and the IDI. We are well aware they are essential to maintain and grow this project.
