Bordados Valldemossa
Bordados Valldemossa opened its doors in 1968. The establishment sells items made from traditional and once commonplace textile crafts such as crochet and embroidery, thereby helping to preserve them.
Thanks to the Binimelis family, the traditional textiles find their way past all the modern franchises, to the shop they opened in the late 1960s on Carrer de Sant Miquel as an outlet for the embroidery of the lady of the house.
In those days, Joan Binimelis would tour the island’s hotels on his Vespa to exhibit the products sold in the store. Joan’s daughter, Teresa, took over the premises in the late 1990s to continue her father’s work and help keep this traditional industry alive. Despite being retired, Joan Binimelis says he still goes to the store every day to keep the shop assistants company.
The façade retains the old sign with white lettering on a black background and an entrance with an aluminium display cabinet on both sides. The interior furnishings remain unchanged since the day the shop opened. As soon as they enter, customers are treated to a dazzling view of the Mallorcan embroideries and crochet tablecloths displayed on the walls and counters.
