Ca’s Tix

Comestibles Villalonga or Ca’s Tix, as the shop is popularly known, was born as a small shop when Pedro Villalonga Pons founded the business in 1862, after returning from Algiers, where he had emigrated. Curiously, the founder of the shop shared the same name and surnames as the family member who runs it today. It is estimated that it has been in the same location for more than 150 years.

In its beginnings, the work was very artisanal and they used the tools and utensils of the time. The establishment still has metal milk churns for transporting the milk, which was sold in bulk, as well as baskets, glass jars, posters, etc. The shop also supplied the seasoning that was added to the pork dishes made on the farms and in the houses of the village.

Joan Villalonga Gomila, Pere Villalonga Sintes and Joan Villalonga Morro continued with the business until the fifth generation of the family with Pedro Villalonga Pons, who currently runs it.

The main activity has always been the sale of groceries. Initially it was a very small shop, but over the years it has undergone several renovations and has been transformed into a large establishment. 25 years ago they carried out a major refurbishment to adapt the facilities to the new demands of residents, tourists and visitors, as well as to respond to the regulations governing commercial activity.

Ca’s Tix has evolved in parallel to the world of commerce and, therefore, the great diversity of articles that can be found in the shop also responds to the diversity of the clientele that passes through Sant Climent. The sale of local products from Menorca has always had a preferential place, and has a presence on the Agroxerxa website, a platform that disseminates the activity of the first sector of Menorca. We can also find a variety of products from different origins, especially British products, which are in great demand by the English population living in the urbanisations near the village.

Ca’s Tix is a point of reference in Sant Climent. Its hallmarks are the spirit of service, proximity and personalised attention to satisfy its customers. The shop also offers a home delivery service to make life easier for the elderly or people with mobility difficulties who cannot usually go to the shop. Orders are received by telephone or e-mail, thus providing a service that is highly valued.
