Gordiola

This establishment on Carrer de la Victoria has been open since the 19th century, when in 1879 Gabriel Gordiola Balaguer opened the shop, as well as the Sa Cristallera factory on Carrer de la Indústria in Palma.

Three hundred years have passed since the maestro Gordiola, a Catalan glass merchant, opened the first furnace in Carrer de El Temple. Since then, the Gordiola family has been expanding the business with new workshops: Bernat Gordiola Manera opened a furnace in Carrer de Bover and his brother Gabriel opened another one in Carrer de La Portella, which operated until 1969, when Daniel Aldeguer Gordiola, Gabriel’s nephew, moved the factory to carretera de Algaida, where the Museu del Vidre is also located, which was opened in 1977.

Daniel Aldeguer, the eighth generation of the family, says that the current objective is to revive one hundred percent handmade production, to incorporate new designs to the traditional models and to provide detailed information about the manufacturing process, an ancestral technique that relies on three basic tools: the quill, the clamps and the scissors.
